You will be GREETED by people with REAL NEW ZEALAND HOSPITALITY

FULL ON ADVENTURE DAY
This 3-4 hour journey starts at Taumarunui and finishes at Ohinepane. It covers 22 km, shooting 49 rapids, mainly travelling through farmland & bush area along the way. Stop and enjoy a coffee & Lavender products at the Lavender Farm nestled out of sight overlooking the river. Catch the Jetboat back after you arrive at Ohinepane, for a real buzz to end your day.

1 DAY JOURNEY
You can depart from Ohinepane and paddle to Whakahoro which is 35 kms. This takes around 6-7 hours. This is a little longer than the above one & you will need to have some experience to complete this in one day.

TWO DAY JOURNEY
Take a two-day leisurely paddle from Taumarunui to Whakahoro, making the most of the exciting rapids, breath taking waterfalls, wildlife and amazing scenery of the upper reaches.

There are campsites on the Taumarunui to Whakahoro section all outlined on the map we give you before you depart.

THREE DAY JOURNEY
Leaving from Whakahoro, this three day trip moves through the river gorges with beautiful scenery and native wildlife all in the Whanganui National Park. You can choose whether or not you would like a navigator on this trip.

Along the way, there are campsites situated aside the riverbank from Whakahoro to Pipiriki – the final destination. Tieke Kainga has a Whare kai (dining hall), a bunk room with 20 bunks & there is plenty of room at the campsite to pitch your tent. We recommend you stay here on the last night as you can meet the Tangata Tuwhenua (local people), history & culture. This section of the river can be slow with a lot more paddling involved.

FOUR DAY JOURNEY
This trip starts at Ohinepane (which means you miss a lot of rapids). Travel through Farmland and then enter the Whanganui National Park which you stay in until you get to Pipiriki. Enjoying waterfalls, Many bird species and the ‘Bridge to Nowhere.’

FIVE DAY JOURNEY
For those of you who have the time this journey has it all.
It has the excitement of the rapids on the first day, amazing scenery, breath taking waterfalls, deep gorges, nature walks, 3 Doc Huts, where you can cook and stay in a bunk (first in first served). The last two days are the most relaxing of them all, a perfect way to end your journey, but best of all you will be met at the boat ramp, with home baking and a cold or hot drink (depending on Weather), now thats the perfect way to finish your holi

Samasati Nature Retreat is located 130 miles South of San José, the capital of Costa Rica, and 30 miles South of Puerto Limón on the Caribbean coast.

SAMASATI ACCOMMODATIONS

Nine Caribbean style Bungalows are nestled into lovely tropical gardens. Built with precious woods exquisitely polished, all have private bathrooms with hot water and spacious verandas overlooking the jungle and the sea. Some have lofts, enabling use as a suite... with the bed upstairs and living room downstairs... or to accomodate three to four people. Beds have high quality single, queen or king size mattresses.

The Guest House is located in a sweet jungle valley favored by toucans, monkeys and dazzling butterflies. Five double rooms, each with two single beds, open onto a spacious veranda with cozy, inviting hammocks. Shared bathrooms with hot water are located at each end of the Guest House.

Samasati's water system is supplied by fresh springs on the property. Please note that our ecologically sound gray disposal system requires the use of environmental friendly biological products only. Costa Rica is a leading manufacturer of natural beauty and hygiene products that can be purchased at Samasati Nature Retreat.

THE HOUSES

Three fully furnished private houses offer the ultimate in Samasati Nature Retreat accomodations. Each are of unique, original design and occupy special locations, close enough to the main facilities but wonderfully secluded. All are blessed with breathtaking views of the jungle and the sea. These houses are available to rent on a monthly basis.

Namaste House is located between two huge Javillo trees. It is 250 meters from the restaurant. Four bedrooms with king or queen size beds, two bathrooms (hot water), and an ample veranda are provided. A fully equipped kitchen, dining room and living room are on the ground floor.

Shanti House is in the thick jungle, 150 meters from the Group Meditation Hall. There are two spacious bedrooms on the second floor, and on the ground floor is a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom (hot water), and dining room opening onto a lovely terrace.

Yucca's House is built on the top of a cliff with spectacular tree top views of the rain forest. Six hundred meters from the restaurant alongside a picturesque old trail, it has one floor with two bedrooms, one bathroom (hot water), a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and large terrace.

Granite Arches Climbing Guides offers the only AMGA/USMGA/WALS certified rock and ice climbing guiding and instruction in the southeastern U.S. in the mountains of North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. Our focus is to help you efficiently reach your climbing goals, while developing superior risk management awareness and technical skill proficiency. In short, our aim is to make you a better climber as quickly as possible. Our instruction can cover beginner and intermediate rock, ice and aid climbing, lead climbing, self-rescue, guide training and wilderness medicine courses.

Our guided rock climbing instruction and guiding is tailored to the client's goals, is highly personalized, and is loosely organized around the following knowledge suites:

Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing: gear overview, basic climbing movement and techniques, belaying and ground anchors, basic risk assessment, and more.
