Broad, diverse, and fascinating, the continent named for explorer Amerigo Vespucci is home to some of the world’s most exciting travel destinations. North America consists of Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Greenland, with Central America and South America to the south. The continent is bookended by the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, with the sun-dappled Caribbean to the southeast. North America’s top destinations are the stuff of household names, evoking images of glittering skyscrapers, silver-screen glamor, and sun-washed, golden beaches of “promised land” caliber.

One aspect of this continent that often overwhelms foreign visitors is its immense size. Too often, starry-eyed tourists imagine an itinerary that takes them from the Statue of Liberty to Disney World, then the Grand Canyon and the iconic Hollywood sign, all within the space of a week! They are often surprised to learn that they’d be spending a lot of time on expensive plane flights crisscrossing thousands of miles to accomplish such a feat! One definitely has to pick one’s travel plan carefully when checking out North America, but the good news is that there’s plenty of treasure to uncover no matter where your path takes you.

North America Top Sights

Ranked consistently among one of Canada’s best places to live, the enormous city of Vancouver (located in British Columbia) is a pretty wonderful place to visit as well. As the city is framed by the mountains on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, the natural beauty of this place is near-unrivaled, but there’s plenty of culture as well—including one of the largest Chinatowns in North America! The climate is mild and enjoyable just about year ‘round, there’s just about every kind of transportation going in and out (try a helicopter tour of the city!), and there’s no end of museums and galleries about. Vancouverites love the great outdoors, and little wonder… just look around!

New York

Ahh, the Big Apple! As much a destination of lore and legend as it is one of the great American cities, you’ll never want for entertainment here. Take in a Broadway show, shop Fifth Avenue, stroll in Central Park, or—in the winter—take a skate around Rockefeller Square. Iconic experiences are around every corner here. Add to that the world-class dining, and you’ll understand why folks the world over leave their hearts here.

Los Angeles

The City of Angels is, for many foreign visitors, synonymous with Hollywood—but there’s so much more than silver-screen glitz to L.A. From long, scenic drives along Malibu beach or the Hollywood Hills, to visiting brilliant art at the Getty Center or taking in just about any type of pro sports that might interest you, you’ll always find yourself spoiled for choice when it comes to entertainment. Add to that the phenomenal shopping (hello, Rodeo Drive!) and world-class parks and museums, and visiting here quickly becomes a whirlwind of vibrant life.

The provincial capital of Ontario is a thriving mega-city known for its multicultural population and geographic position as the heart of the famed Golden Horseshoe. Welcoming and friendly, it is a huge metro with a small-town heart. Don’t miss the Art Gallery of Ontario (Canada’s biggest), a ride to the glass-floored top of CN Tower, the Royal Ontario Museum, or a visit to the world-class Ontario Zoo. Shop Yorkville or the ultra-hip fashion district, stroll the bohemian sidewalks of the Kensington Market, or check out some of the renowned local microbrews at your nearest brewery.

Tucked at the bottom of the Floridian peninsula, Miami is a tropical paradise with panache to spare. It’s close to the popular beach hangouts of Fort Lauderdale, Key West, and, of course, Miami Beach, and packed with the all diversity and multicultural charm for which South Florida is known. Catch a sightseeing tour by boat, check out the glory of the Everglades, visit Zoo Miami, see the ancient Spanish monastery on West Dixie Highway, sample world-class wine and food, or, in March, score a ticket to the famous Ultra Music Festival, which is held annually in the streets of downtown.

Summer Adventures in Hawaii

We traveled to four of the Hawaiian Islands. On each island we were able to experience different fun and exciting adventures. While we were in Honolulu, we rented bikes and rode them out to Diamond Head where we climbed to the top. From there we had a magnificent view of Honolulu. We also visited the Pearl Harbor which provided a historical account of the events of December 7th, but also allowed you to experience an emotional connection to the events of the day. Leaving my lei at the memorial was the highlight of that destination. Then we traveled to the island of Kona where we not only visited the Hawaiian Volcano National Park, but also went to the Kona Coffee Living History farm. While at the farm, we were able to hand pick coffee beans and I even got to use an old fashion coffee grinder to grind coffee beans. From our hotel, we were able to view the manta rays each evening. The next island we traveled to was Maui. While on this island we were able to got to watch the sunrise at Haleakala National Park and then bicycle down the volcano to the sea side. The last island that we visited was Kauai. On this island we spent most of a day, zip-lining in the area where Jurassic Park was filmed. We also took surfing lessons which was a blast. These adventures listed above were just the top highlights of the various experiences that we had while visiting the islands. We spend two fun-filled weeks relaxing while learning about the history and culture of the Hawaiian Islands--we hope some day to have the opportunity to experience the islands again.

Christmas in Hawaii

What an amazing trip we had. We stayed 5 days at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We booked tours of Dole, Pearl harbor, flew to the Big Island for a day tour including Volcano National Park. We hiked up Diamond Head Christmas morning for the sunrise, enjoyed a Luah at our resort and the next morning flew to Poipu, Kauai where we spent 5 glorious days at the Grand Hyatt. We took surf lesson, a NaPali Coast boat tour, helicopter tour and walked around the Kauai Plantation. At both resorts we played in the pools, beaches, snorkeled, ate well, and drank tropical! We were so fortunate that all of my sisters and their families could vacation together - a total of 14. Travel Escapes in Westerville, OH helped with the planning.

Lovely time at the Riu Palace

Great service, good food. Activities for those interested. Chilling at the beach for those who want nothing to do. Recommend taking a snorkeling trip to Catalina Island. If you're into massages, try one one the beach... It's wonderful.
